School Residency

Each residency is designed to allow students of all levels, ages and exceptionalities, the opportunity to learn Hip Hop, Breaking and a fusion of both. Students will engage in character building activities, as well as movement phrases that incorporate steps found in Hip Hop and Breaking. Each class promotes a positive and safe environment for all students to express themselves and feel comfortable. The school residencies are typically integrated with the physical education program, or dance/art program of the school. Students will learn the foundation of specific dance styles, accompanied with a brief history of the steps, styles and their cultural background. Students will be able to present a choreographed combination by the end of the residency. Each residency is guaranteed to get the students moving, sweating and having FUN!

-Testimonials-

The three members of One Circle, Kaleb Tekeste, Hesam Shoghi and Chris Clare, all work tirelessly to educate their students and the general public about the history and development of their chosen form. They all have had opportunity to work with different age groups and skill levels and have grown in their teaching abilities and currently provide unmatched instruction in the various styles of Hip Hop, specializing in B-Boying.

The work and teaching that One Circle Dance has provided for my Grade 7-9 dance students at Sir John A. Macdonald Junior High School has been exceptional. Students love their classes because of the diversity in Hip Hop styles presented including Breaking and House. Teachers provide urban cultural background and historical relevance for each form, meld current moves with old school, bring in the best beats, and always emphasize the importance of personal groove. One Circle has not only instructed, but also participated and been a part of our school fundraisers and provided extracurricular classes after school. I have no hesitation in highly recommending One Circle Dance. They bring a fresh and professional vibe while sincerely sharing their love and passion for urban dance culture.

Sir John A. Macdonald

As a teacher, Chris is excellent. He has a high level of personal knowledge and understanding of the content required to offer an outstanding dance program. His presentation is highly dynamic, resulting in students being engaged and enthusiastic. He has a powerful ability to develop positive attitudes in his students. Chrs has taught at both the Grade 10 and 11 level and we will be expanding this program in the coming year to include Grade 9 and 12 due to its success. Students don't just like Chris, they learn from him.

Chris is a valued asset to our Physical Education program and we will continue to use One Circle Dance Company in our school as long as we can.
